Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will attend the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi in March
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko told reporters on Monday (January 30) that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is set to attend the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in the Indian capital New Delhi on March 1-2.
"Our foreign minister will attend the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi on March 1-2," Rudenko was quoted as saying by the Russian news agency TASS.
On 1 December, India officially assumed the chairmanship of the G20 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the South Asian nation's G20 chairmanship would be inclusive, ambitious, decisive and action-oriented.
Officials have said that as part of the group's activities, it intends to hold more than 200 meetings in 55 different locations across the country. India aims to showcase its rich cultural heritage, which will culminate in the annual G20 summit to be held on September 9-10 in New Delhi.
For starters, the G20 (or Group of 20) is an intergovernmental forum of the world's major developed and developing economies. This includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, US and European. Union (EU).
The G20 has emerged as a major forum for international economic cooperation as it collectively accounts for 85 percent of global GDP. It also accounts for 75 percent of international trade and two-thirds of the world's population.
